Some tech changes

This is an info-only post. Nothing much to read here!

I moved from Movable Type to WordPress as the blogging platform. There are numerous comparisons of the two on the web (this is a good example). But my primary reason was WordPress seems to be more popular, which translates to more options for customization through plug-ins, wider availability of themes/styles, better support from other apps (e.g. Windows Live Writer, which I am using to post this) and more user-friendliness in my opinion, especially for setting-up, tweaking and updating/upgrading.

The other major change is a new domain – www.thewastelandblog.com, this one. It just appeared to me that a .in domain was not as good as a .com one for search engine visibility. I could be wrong, but I didn’t want to take any chances! But no changes in ways to access The Waste Land though – all redirections are in place and the RSS feed has not changed either.

The last big development – I am looking for ways to monetize this thing. It has never hurt a man to have some extra cash, I figured! I am not too confident of this, but let me give it a try, I thought. A first step – Amazon ads (Google Adsense will be next). Two kinds – the first one, random recommendations of jazz/blues/rock music – the second one, a list of my favourite picks, with comments from yours truly! So go ahead, click on them, buy something and contribute to the worthy cause of “Keeping Suman drunk”!
